Harrison County Trunked Radio
System
EDACS with PROVOICE
Harrison County is using a M/A-COMM Erricson EDACS trunked radio system, with every public safety agency in the entire county on it. All of the Law Enforcement agencies are using the Provoice digital technology provided by EDACS. No scanner today is capable of receiving a Provoice transmission. In fact today's trunk-tracking scanners won't even acknowledge any provoice talkgroups or transmissions. They ignore them completely.
This doesn't mean that you will not hear traffic on this system. It is very active with other agencies. Every Fire Department in the county, including city ran departments are using this system in the clear. Your trunk-tracker will be able to listen to them. Also public works, roads department, and so forth are active users on the system. Below you'll find the required Logical Channel Numbers (LCNs) for this system, as well as a list of CONFIRMED talkgroups which are listed by their AFS (Agency/Fleet/Subfleet) code, generally the id you'll see on your display when the talkgroup is active.
First let me explain the basic concept to programming for EDACS scanning. As I mentioned earlier each frequency in the system is in a logical numbered order. If you leave one of the frequencies out, or put them in the wrong place you will not be able to track the transmissions. It is important that you understand when programming your scanner to put everything in the correct order.
Not only does each frequency have a specific order they go in, it also matters WHERE in your scanner you program each frequency in. Let's say you're going to use bank 1 of your scanner. DO NOT start off with channel OOO in your scanner. Always start with THE FIRST CHANNEL in your bank to put edacs frquencies in. So frequency one would go in channel 001, frequency two would go in channel 002, and so forth. Remember, ALWAYS PROGRAM STARTING WITH THE FIRST CHANNEL in your bank. It doesn't matter what bank you use, but that you start it with the first channel, not the 000 or 100, or 500 channel, but 001, 101, or 501 channel.
Also when programming your scanner with the system wide settings make sure you choose EDACS WIDE (do not use EDACS NARROW) narrow doesn't work with this system and you will not hear anything if you don't set it to WIDE. Ok now on to the LCN and the talkgroups found thus far....
HARRISON COUNTY LCN (place these in your scanner in the order as they appear beginning with channel 001 of your scanner)
